Winter Sports

When the snow is falling and the temperature is cool, the Madison area still has a variety of outdoor activities for visitors. Bundle up and explore the many lakes, parks and trails for skating, sledding and skiing opportunities!

Ice Skating and Sledding
Bring your ice skates and head over to Tenny, Vilas, or Elver Park and skate the day away. These parks offer warming houses, lighted rinks and ice skate rentals. Call 266-4711 or visit the City of Madison Parks website for skating hours, rental prices and ice conditions. For sledding, the City of Madison Parks offers seven great sledding hills. Elver Park even makes snow for when Mother Nature doesn't cooperate!

Skiing, Snowboarding, and Snowshoeing
Devil's Head attracts skiers and snowboarders because of its variety of perfectly-groomed ski runs that sit on one of the highest mountains in Wisconsin. The resort also features lessons, kids programs, lodging and group lift tickets.

The Madison Nordic Ski Club is a great resource for cross-country skiers, and their website outlines area trails and conditions. Other skiing and snowshoeing resources include:

Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling is a great winter pastime and the Dane County Council of Snowmobile Clubs provides many useful resources for snowmobilers including an excellent map of the Dane County snowmobile trails and up to date information about trail conditions.
